The Americans project stems from the hot topics of the 2016 presidential debates. Positions on “No Muslims,” “Walls,” Borders," “Refugees,” “Immigration”, and “Mass Deportation” led Joe to reflect on the beginnings of America. Native Americans were displaced and removed by the current Americans. Joe re-photographed 100 year romantic old portrait images made of Native Americans. He added many textured nuanced photographs of patriotic, nationalist, and capitalistic symbols, employing a decaying look to reflect the eroding customs and ethnicity of these people.
Photographs are printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching archival textured paper. Editions of 20.
