Most of Joseph's original images were made with a large format camera
resulting in original transparencies or negatives of 4" x
5". The fine resolution, detail and tonality of the larger size
original cannot be matched by those of a 35mm or medium format
camera. The 4"x 5" transparency or negative is 16
times larger than a 35mm transparency or negative. The technical quality is
unrivaled, as the larger transparency clearly becomes evident in bigger
sized prints. The finished product is a true fine art print worthy of
collection and display.
Joseph uses two different printing processes, depending on the particular
image.
The two processes are:
1) Crystal Archive LightJet 5000 Photographic Prints; and
2) Traditional Type AC@
Exhibition Prints.
LightJet 5000 Prints
The LightJet 5000 prints utilize the latest state-of-the-art digital process.
First,
Joseph=s 4" x 5" transparency
is scanned on a super high resolution drum scanner. Then, Joseph
works with his custom printer to apply darkroom equivalent
adjustments to the
image using Adobe Photoshop. These modifications include burning and dodging,
contrast and color balance, and saturation controls, similar to
processes used
in black and white photography. There are no other manipulations,
such as changing the color of trees or substituting parts of
other images. Only
traditional darkroom equivalents are used!!!
Once a master digital file is created the image is printed on to Fuji Crystal
Archive
Paper through a laser procedure, and then the photographic paper is
processed
through traditional photographic chemistry. This method results in
greater resolution,
especially in larger prints. Fuji Crystal Archive Paper is
highly archival (70+ years), even greater
than the highly touted Cibachrome or Ilfochrome
papers. Fine matte or glossy papers are used. The new matte paper has
wonderful tonal range never before equaled and it now has the depth and pop of
Cibachrome papers. It is Joseph's current choice for printing. There are no other
processes that result in a true photographic
print, optical or digital, that can
equal the LightJet for color quality,
sharpness and image control. LightJet 5000 prints enable far more accurate renditions of Joseph=s
images than
traditional enlargements. They can match the range of color and
contrast as seen by
Joseph=s eye,
which is important, as the human eye has far greater latitude and range than
transparency film. The limitations of the traditional optical enlarging process
are
virtually eliminated and the final print results in superior color quality,
accuracy,
resolution, tonal range and longevity.
Type AC@
Exhibition Prints
Type AC@
Prints are produced by use of a contact internegative from a 4" x 5"
transparency. They have traditionally been the photographer=s
choice and means of
analog printing because they enable the photographer to have
his images custom hand printed with a broad tonal range. Joseph=s
Type AC@
museum quality prints are
also made on Fuji Crystal Archive papers. The longevity of these prints also exceed
that of Cibachrome or Ilfochrome prints,
which are known for their fade resistant quality.
Notes
It should be noted that, due to the inherent limitations in resolution of
computer
monitors and lengthy times of downloading pictures, the
high quality and sharpness
of Joseph's images cannot be
matched by the Web. The quality of
any photographic print ordered from
this web site will far surpass any image shown on this site.
It should be further noted that the copyright symbols appearing on this
